Hsinchu County is replete with memories of early Taiwanese comics such as Liu Hsing-chin’s “Brother A-San and Big Aunty", Ye Hong-chia’s “Zhu Ge Si Liang", Chen Ting-kuo’s “Lu Siniang", Cheng Cheng-chung’s “Brain Twisters", Push’s “Sci-Fi Comics", Lai You-xian’s “The Romance of the Heir Apparent" and Hong Cheng-hui’s “Magic Club". The rise of urban narratives in city marketing also saw the Hollywood movie “Avatar" successfully give themes as human ecology, the conflict between human nature and the environment as well as love a commercial interpretation, spurring tourism interest in visiting comic settings. In Asia, Japan’s “Astroboy" in Hyogo, “Anpanman" in Kochi as well as Hayao Miyazaki and Yumiko Igarashi were all examples of how comics and the setting of their stories helped stimulate city tourism. To attract visitors from around the world to Hsinchu County, the local history with comics has been leveraged to create the Comics Dream Park project, the first international tourism marketing campaign to be based around the stories of comics for a city in Taiwan.
